Hi, I’m JP. I’m from Lake Villa, Illinois. I really enjoy woodworking, although I’d definitely consider myself a beginner.

Things I’ve enjoyed making: cutting boards and workbenches. Things I really want to make: more furniture type things, and to deck out my garage with cool woodworking benches, and cabinets (i.e. have a nice workshop to escape to).

I’m excited to see all the great posts, ideas, and other discussions on this site, as well as get some advice from some experts.

Thanks Jesse! Here are two cutting boards I recently made. They came out ok, not perfect. But, I did learn a lot, which I guess is important. And I learned I need to probably buy a band saw to make that second cutting board with the inlays a little better as you can see. These were my first two cutting boards from a few months ago. I haven't had much time to do anymore yet.

Those look great! What is the light wood? The dark is walnut, right?

Jesse thank you. In the first (checkered) one, the dark wood is actually Purple Heart, and the light wood is hickory.

In the second, yes, walnut is the dark, the light is hickory, and the inlay is Purple Heart.
